Thriving as an Executive Director

For five years, Michelle Gislason and I have been co-leading a workshop series for CompassPoint Nonprofit Services. It's for executive directors and about-to-be EDs.

The workshop information is below, but if you have further questions, feel free to send me an e-mail and I'll be glad to answer them.

Thriving as an Executive Director: The CompassPoint Leadership Seminar

How-tos don't run your organization—you do! Skills and strategies are indispensable, but it's your personal power that makes it all work.

It's so easy to get dragged down by focusing on limitations and failings. But the largest sturdy ever done on excellence in managing and leading gives us hope. It shows that the breakthrough comes when you master the ability to work from your natural talents and strengths.

Being an executive director is so challenging that we need all our power working for us. And we need allies and partner supporting us, otherwise it becomes lonely at the top.

This intensive series is for EDs or about-to-be EDs who are serious about thriving. if you want leadership to empower and sustain you, and if you refuse to let leadership diminish you and burn you out—please join us!

In the first session, you'll discover your core talents, and then see how effective they can be at solving problems for you and making your life easier. You'll receive a free copy of the book Soar with Your Strengths, a quick read and an ongoing inspiration.

In the second session, you'll get to design your own Personal Leadership Network—a team of allies who are dedicated to your success as a leader. This is a challenging thing to initiate, but once you've got it going, you'll love it and never go back to solo leadership.

Sessions three and four will help you turn staff members into allies instead of dependents and Board members into partners instead of critical parents.

As part of registering for the series, you'll receive five half-hour coaching sessions—before, between, and after the workshops. Rich or Michelle will provide you with gentle but powerful coaching to help you really put into practice what you learn—so you get the full enjoyment of leading from strength and leading with allies.
